Beginnings

Dear Parents:

Beginnings are times of change, excitement and expectations. They may be times of stress and anxiety.  They are a time to say farewell to the security of the familiar and to go forward to meet new challenges.  For children in school, life is composed of many beginnings. Teachers are the guides who help children over the sometimes rocky paths of these transitions.

When young children enter school for the first time, they face an unfamiliar world.  They may have had little experience in being parted from their parents, with being among many children and with making choices. Teachers working with parents can help make this transition easier.

It is not easy to predict how children will respond; some children may be happy and enthusiastic, others more quiet and observant, and some children may actively express that they are upset by crying and clinging to a parent.  Eventually, no matter the reaction, the parents must leave and the child will be left at school. The important thing to know is that your child’s teacher is skilled in helping your child make this home-to-school transition in a loving way.

It will not take long for your child to know that the school environment is fun and safe.  Your child’s teacher will provide your child with encouragement, love and understanding to help build the bridge of security and trust.

Our primary goals are to provide a safe, nurturing environment to help your child feel good about self and others, to relate in harmony and joy with others and to establish a lifelong love for learning and creative expression.  The curriculum and natural flow of daily activities has been carefully evaluated and planned to meet this unfolding potential of your child.
